Wardrobe for a Female Model Photo Shoot
Here are some of the essentials for your wardrobe. Depending on the shoot, some of the clothing listed here can be provided if this is a model shoot for a client. Also check with the photographer ahead of the session to verify what should be brought. Then out think the photographer and bring a few extras, clients always change their minds.
Sports & knit tops, button up tops, shorts, cutoff blue jeans, etc.
Conservative Business Suit – for a different look
Casual – blue jeans, skinny jeans Sports (exercise, uniforms, shorts, etc.) – If there is a chance of some sports modeling
Swim wear – needs to be a bikini or one piece that really flatters you. Unless this is a “Glamour” shoot, it should NOT be your tiniest one
Bring some props like favorite hats, neckties, men’s shirts, jackets, etc.
A few pair of hose/nylons in an basic assortment of colors such as nude, black and white
Socks in different colors including black and white
Bring several different bras including at least one push-up and one in flesh tone color (for glamour modeling)
A robe to wear between changes during the photo session

Accessories for Your Modeling Photo Shoot
Bring some accessories which will accent or match the outfits. Please keep accessories simple as we are not selling the accessories but you wearing the client’s outfits or a certain look.
Assortment of necklaces
Watch – You normally wouldn’t wear a watch unless you are doing a photo where you will be looking at the time.
Rings – A mock or real wedding ring is very useful. Other small but stylist rings can add nice accents if needed.
!!!! Remove ALL body piercings, irons, bars, jewels etc. !!!!
As with accessories, shoes should match or accent the outfit. But, you can also think outside the box on the subject of footwear. For example; High heels have a totally different look with jeans or swim wear than with an evening dress. But, forget the clear plastic spikes or the leopard prints unless specifically asked to bring something like that.
Dress shoes – Bring few different styles
High heels – Bring a couple of styles also
Jogging/CrossTrainer shoes – basic white and CLEAN
Boots or high heel boots
Hair and Personal Grooming
MMost paid modeling sessions will have a MUA on set but, if this is a TFP or a low budget shoot, you might be on your own. Come prepared regardless to clean up and dress up your hair.
An assortment of combs and hairbrushes
A curling iron
A couple of headbands
Shaving cream and a couple of sharp razors
Anything else you specifically use for your hair care
When coming to the model shoot, I would suggest leaving the hair fairly natural with very little (if any) hairspray so that you, or the MUA, can work with it after you arrive.
Do NOT color your hair the night before, the color might not set and the stylist may add something that could react with the colorant. Also, your skin may have a reaction so if you are going to color your hair, do it a few day before the modeling session. And dont come with pink bubble gum air and expect the client to be happy. Bring a natural look and let the client decide how far they want to change it up.
Makeup and facial
Even if your session will have a MUA, you still may want to pack the following …
Your complete makeup kit along with a mirror
Cottonballs and swabs
A good skin cleanser
Several different shades of lip color (be sure to bring some solid colors)
A quick tip about nails. Remember that in photos, your eye will move to vivid colors first, especially red. So unless you are told before hand, give your nails a nice coat of clear or natural polish. If the client wants color, they can add it in post or have some polish added over your clear coat.
Here is a checklist for nail products to take to your photo shoot.
Your complete manicure kit
Nail polish with neutral color
Remover kit for nail polish
A nice manicure will really enhance your model photos, especially images where your hand is near your face in close-ups so pay particular attention to your nails.
